Stripping out the rear bulkhead

So today was very therapeutical, I stripped out all of the plastic fantastic from the rear bulk head as part of the preparation for the half roll cage fitting:

I've now got to cut out the middle metal part to make room for the cage, this is something like it should look when finished:

Race Seat Mounts..

In order to fit the race seats we needed some seat mounts to fit to the OEM seat bolts:

We've opted for these beauties from Macht Schnell via CA International.

Z4M Race Pedal Setup..

For those of you that are used to a bit of ‘Heal and Toe’ action when changing down the gears unfortunately the standard pedal layout in the Z4M is too wide apart to easily reach the accelerator with the side of your foot. So some modifications were necessary to make it just right for the track.

I basically bolted a piece of wood around 10mm closer to the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal (which was Vinyl wrapped in black first), then fitted some aftermarket petals that were a bit wider to get the pedal distances just right. This lifted the accelerator pedal to the correct height too..

I tested it a Oulton Park recently and it was spot on, which is more than I can say for the OEM brakes, but that’s another story..

The Z4M Time Attack Project begins!

So the project begins, take a 338Bhp BMW Z4M Coupe road car and turn it into a road legal track weapon eligible for the Time Attack race series.

Our car is a 06 model with 33,000 miles on the clock that needs a new life..

Our plan is to get it back on the road first then upgrade the Brakes, Suspension, Seats, Poly Bush it and add half a roll cage, making it eligible for the Clubman or Clubman+ class. Finally we will fix the paintwork and Vinyl wrap it in Matt Black!
